The United States Supreme Court overturned a lower court decision Monday that would have prevented federal prosecutors from using tribal court convictions in habitual offender cases. Now federal prosecutors can establish habitual offender status in domestic violence cases helping to protect Native women from abuse in Indian Country where cases of domestic violence have the highest rates and where rates of recidivism run the highest by the offenders.
